This event — organized by Free the Slaves as attended by our AAI Director of Human Trafficking –
Pastor Donna Hubbard Hee is a report in her own words:
This event was this was exceptional Ambassador John Richmond was there, his statement that he made was so moving. It really was timely. It was moving and it was transparent which no one had expected. He just went there and you know that really for us.
As people who are survivor leaders, it’s important that people who are in certain positions are transparent and that they show accountability and they encourage accountability, and he did that, I was enc. Has a number of third world agencies that provide resources. However, we still do not have a genuine international network whereby we can connect with one another.
When we have survivors that we need to place or survivors that we need to have some form of resources and treatment, and I think that we need a international network to be able to do that. And survivor leaders who are able to provide oversight for that network, to make sure that the agencies who are saying that they’re doing certain work are actually doing their work. I saw a lot of the survivors that I met during the Dominican Republic event, and I met a lot of new people. So it was really survivor leaders centered , and that was encouraging and really mesmerizing in so many ways.

I came away with a very renewed dedication to doing some work that will connect us not just enlarge or enhance each agency, but connect the agencies so that we can build one another up.
We can stop competing for resources and really start sharing the opportunities that come so that we can all build, because we have agencies that I’m sorry, we have agencies that focus on children, agencies that focus on women agencies that focus on LGBTQ, individuals. And so there’s so much diversity now. That if we do not keep a firm hand on making sure that each one is credible, then we’re going to lose out we’re going to lose our integrity and credibility within the government agencies, the other thing is that I stress to the survivor leaders that I connected with and the opportunities that I had to speak that we are building a legacy and legacy comes from Adding integrity to history, we can’t just have history. If we don’t have integrity , if we have history , that’s not a legacy that we want to leave just history , we want history that has integrity , that is what makes a legacy.
