AAI’s Associate Director, Harry Yan, and Youth Representative, Alex Pan, attended the 24th Infopoverty World Conference at the United Nations Headquarters with Alberto Barachini, Undersecretary of State, Italy. This year’s conference addressed the profound and urgent question of how artificial intelligence, one of the most beneficial technologies of the time, can be directed towards realizing the Sustainable Development Goals instead of reinforcing inequalities or fueling military intentions.
The conference showcased the transformative potential of AI in sustainable agriculture, particularly for achieving food security and climate resilience in Africa. One of the highlights was the EWA-BELT Project, an EU Horizon 2020 initiative applying AI-driven precision agriculture across 38 sites in six African countries. AI-powered sensors and predictive analytics enable early pest detection, real-time crop monitoring, and adequate water and soil management. These technologies reduce waste, raise yields, and help local farmers deal with environmental and economic stresses.
Beyond agriculture are AI’s healthcare and clean energy applications. AI-powered telemedicine systems extend diagnostic and treatment capabilities to rural areas by connecting local facilities to urban health networks, improving care access and efficiency. In clean energy, innovations like the AI-enhanced H2 Combustor from Giacomini Spa are optimizing energy distribution in underserved regions. These technologies facilitate sustainable infrastructure and digital inclusion, particularly in ICT Villages, which is a tremendous leap in human development through the integration of AI.
Communication and governance were also key. AI revolutionizes how societies communicate, govern, and learn; ethical values, human rights protection, and transparency must guide it. The conference emphasized an integrated international effort, boosted by the newly adopted Global Digital Compact and Pact for the Future, to ensure AI serves the common good. The conference called for goal-driven AI in all areas, from African precision agriculture to telemedicine networks in the Global South.
It’s thrilling that Airline Ambassadors International was engaged in this part of the global movement about direct innovation towards service, empathy, and an environmentally conscious purpose. While AI keeps rewriting the Future, AAI is always excited to promote access to technology across the globe.
