Our first Virtual Mission to….SIERRA LEONE!
Our humanitarian service missions have helped so many vulnerable children over the years may be temporarily postponed due to COVID 19, but help is still needed now more than ever!
On June 25th, 2020 we virtually traveled to meet Ibrahim Bangura and the orphans he cares for. We met some of the children and saw where they eat…sleep…and go to school. We also met some of the 48 women AAI helped return to Sierra Leone after they had been trafficked to Kuwait! We’ll learn what they are doing and how they are feeling since returning home.
Because of that call we generated donations to rent a house for Sierra Care Foundation for one year and funding to provide a feeding program for orphans and sponsors for six children and 2 trafficking victims.
Ibrahim Bangura first contacted AAI last year and we were able to help him save 48 local women who had been trafficked to Kuwait. He is active in local trafficking education and a huge supporter of keeping women knowledgeable and safe. He has also identified traffickers for the police. Some of the women had been raped by their captors but when they came back to Sierra Leone, they were stigmatized by the community and even their families. Ibrahim used some of the funding we raised for him, to provide for the mother and baby precious baby.
More recently 85 trafficked women were returned from Kuwait, and all 85 were deemed COVID-19 positive. Two are pregnant. Ibrahim plans to meet with them on June 17th and he will give us an update on the Zoom call.
He also runs the Sierra Care Foundation and cares for over 70 children in his community.
He provides food, medication, and basic education and necessities for these children and he needs our help….Especially now. Just today he wrote saying “the children are crying for food..so I bought a bag of rice”. He is teaching them health and hygiene to prevent the COVID-19 virus as well.
We are hoping to raise $1,000 to help him pay the rent on a facility to house the foundation, some of the children and trafficking victims for the next year.
This Zoom call will take place at 7:30 pm June 25 in Sierra Leone and we will send you the coordinates once you register. That would be 3:30 Eastern Time, adjust for your own time zone.
All participants will preview a short video that will give us a feel of the area, background on the Foundation and some of the children that live in the community as well as trafficking victims he helped rescue!
Afterward our Mission Leader, Abeni Johnson will introduce you live to Ibrahim Bangura, Director of the Sierra Care Foundation as well as some of the children and trafficking victims. We will share their needs and goals and discuss what we can do to help them!
