She is a role model for millions of people – women, children and men around the world. He is one of the most influential figures in the commercial aviation industry in the United States. The non-profit organization he founded twenty-two years ago has saved millions of lives so far. All this would not have happened if, when she was 29, an unexpected event had not pushed her to find her purpose in life.
The night she found out that her father had died suddenly, Nancy had already given up her successful career in the corporate world to become a stewardess and thus be able to see the world. Although very beautiful and with many suitors, she still did not decide to sit at her house. The time had not yet come. Maybe because since childhood, she had been waiting for a sign to guide her on her mission in life. The disappearance of the father with whom he had a deep connection was the first step towards a spiritual search that lasted seven years. Nancy set out to pursue a greater purpose in life than her own happiness, and she wanted to know how. Meetings with spiritual masters such as Sathya Sai Baba and Babaji Francesco Atmananda,
Nancy decided to put herself in the service of the real needs of the people, to inspire ordinary people to offer extraordinary help to their fellows by acting out of love.
Although no one supported her at first, over time, her will, enthusiasm and determination attracted other flight attendants, airport employees, major airlines and even the UN. Airline Ambassadors, an organization she founded in 1996, began by helping disadvantaged children in poor countries by providing them with access to food, water, education and quality health care in the United States, and is now a major player in combating human trafficking.
“I think the Earth is a school,” Nancy told me. “It’s a place to learn that our actions have consequences and to take responsibility for them. A wonderful opportunity to show our love through actions that help others.
“Compassion and generosity are two of the core values that animate Nancy Rivard in everything she does. To which is added a good dose of courage. In the 1990’s, Nancy Rivard did not shy away from going alone to a refugee camp in Serbia to take supplies. That’s when she first met David Rivard, who would become her husband, her soul mate, an animated man of the same values as her. A sign that everything is interconnected in our lives and that when we find our way in life, we finally find the partner who is truly destined for us.
