Survivor Story: A Mother’s Brave Next Step
Fifteen years ago, at just 16 years old, Anna (name changed) entered one of the first restorative care homes in the country. At the time, we didn’t fully understand the lifelong impact of trafficking, and Anna carried those unhealed wounds into adulthood.
She faced years of re-victimization, abusive relationships, addiction, and trauma. When her child was removed from her care, Anna made the courageous decision to fight for both her recovery and her family.
She got clean. She stayed clean. She began to understand that her circumstances were rooted in exploitation, not personal failure. But she quickly discovered a heartbreaking reality: there were no restorative programs in her state that could accept both her and her child.
Without stable housing, Anna couldn’t complete her case plan and, therefore, couldn’t reunify with her child.
No survivor should have to do this alone.
Through Safe House Project’s network, we connected Anna to a partner program willing to welcome her and her child, a place that understands how essential family is to healing. They are already preparing to receive her, offering not just services but true hope.
