Maybe you are asking, “Is there something I can do?”, looking around we saw how the pandemic affected the lives of many Filipinos. The need for food access and water sustainability has become a challenge to the Abatex community. Our goal is to provide nourishing foods for the children, proper education about livelihood, health, and nutrition, and bestow clean drinking water. You can do something whether you are from a different part of the globe, you can still impart in the life of our children.
When the pandemic hit the Philippines, many remote communities were affected such as Abatex an undeveloped community comprised of 100 families. Due to the pandemic, many lost their jobs resulting in financial constraints and shortages of income. During this pandemic, malnutrition can be a rising problem in most undeveloped and remote areas and this has been rising in Abatex community.
This project provides for the immediate nutritional needs of the children by giving them nourishing meals & clean drinking water, as well as developing a Livelihood program. The plan is to establish a Community Garden and to buy and plant Calamasi trees that grow well in the area. The trees can be cultivated and the popular local limes sold at the market. Each tree takes 2 years to bear fruit, but the community can develop agricultural skills to cultivate the trees leading to income and livelihood.
Our goal is to help the Abatex community to be independent in the next five years. We want to meet the immediate needs of the children by providing nutritious food and also build a sustainable future by teaching the people of Abatex to take care of the resources they have and develop their community. This will increase the gardening skills of community members and ultimately create livelihoods.
