“A study on the Exploitation and Sexual Abuse of Children in the context of Travel and Tourism”; a closer look at the phenomena of voluntourism
Hosted October 10th at the Church of Incarnation and on October 12th at the Salvation Army Building in New York, the discussions were informative and the participation of youth participants and survivors from around the world provided a broader scope of understanding of what child victims of human trafficking face, endure, and need to overcome the tragedy and trauma of exploitation. Participating as a Subject Matter Expert, Bishop Donna Hubbard was among the noted panelists, experts in child exploitation, aviation, PACT members and staff, s well as leaders from governments, private sector and civil society who joined in reviewing the UN Special Rapporteur report on findings and recommendations to pave the way for action, strategies and standards in child protection.
On October 10th Ms. Mama Fatima Singhateh, the UN Special Rapporteur, presented and reviewed the findings and recommendations to open the gateway for voices like Donna Hubbard’s and others from Ecuador, Mexico and Africa to be heard to help shape the future of child protection standards.
On Day 2, October 12th, also available virtually, Dr. Najat Maalla M’jid, the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children, and esteemed leaders from governments, private sector, and civil society organizations conversed on the SRSG VAC’s report findings and recommendations to pave the way for actionable strategies and heightened standards in child protection.
Credible comments from experts such as Lori Cohen, Executive Director, ECPACT now referred to as PACT, a long-time friend and supporter of AAI, gave clarity and credibility to the research and data presented.
