From 15th May- 15th June 2023, Maiti Nepal’s Transit Homes intercepted individuals, rescued, and offered shelter to 336 individuals.
Here is the stry of Rosy out of their newsletter:
Rosy (name changed), 22, lived with her family and worked in a garment factory. She met Shyam (name changed) on Facebook, who offered her a job in India with a higher salary. Rosy agreed and they secretly left. Shyam instructed her to tell say she was going to meet her relatives in India if anyone asked. After crossing the India-Nepal border, Shyam left her at a house in Pune, where she realized she was among other Nepali women and forced into sexual encounters with strangers.
Back in Nepal, Rosy’s family alerted Maiti Nepal about her disappearance. Maiti Nepal staff, using the information from the missing case filed at Maiti Nepal, tracked her down to the Pune brothel where she had been trafficked. Working together with the police, Maiti Nepal conducted a successful raid on the brothel, liberating Rosy from captivity.
Currently, Rosy is under the protection of Maiti Nepal in Kathmandu. The case has been reported to Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau Nepal, and investigations are ongoing to identify Shyam, the real culprit responsible for the trafficking. Rosy is determined to testify in court when the case goes to trial at the Kathmandu District Court.
