Improve Lives With Education In BUNAKIJJA, UGANDA
Summary
Children in rural areas of Uganda have no access to good education. Teachers in village schools are unmotivated and frequently absent. Students are unable to pass the National End of Primary School Exam and, consequently, they are unable to pursue further education. Our school offers 220 children of Bunakijja an opportunity to receive a good quality education that includes knowledge of English. Our graduates have not only passed the National Exam but have done it with top grades.

Challenge
Legislation forbidding fishing in Lake Victoria devastated the community’s economy. The school needs cannot be supported through school fees. Parents cannot afford government required uniforms, school material or even lunch! A chicken coop provides the school a modest income, but the school needs to be almost entirely maintained through your generous support. Due to poor exam results, more children were pulled out of public school and registered at ours creating additional need for desks
Solution
A lunch program improves the students’ health, attendance and concentration. Attendance seems to drop after the 5th grade in most rural schools but a good meal has been proven to reduce the problem. Providing the girls with menstruation pads keeps them from missing classes. Your donations provide the children with lunch, school supplies, sanitation supplies and uniforms including mandatory shoes and socks. Donations are also applied to teachers salaries and more desks.
Long-Term Impact
Quality primary education for Bunakijja children equips them to pursue higher education to rise above poverty and make significant contributions to their families and communities We are focusing on training courses for students’ mothers. Establishing chicken coops, Soap making and mushroom cultivation projects are starting to impact the community economy and it is hoped that, in two years’ time, the parents will be able to pay a fee that will provide substancial support to the school.
What is the impact with a one time donation?
