‘Sustainable and resilient Tourism and AI: Emerging Issues to 2030.
Nancy – Hello, I am Nancy Rivard, founder of Airline Ambassadors International. I founded our non profit in 1998 while working as a flight attendant for American Airlines and I wanted to find a way for ordinary people to be a living link between world resource and world need.- To travel and make a difference. We have worked in countries throughout the world and hand delivered over 62 million in humanitarian aid directly to vulnerable children. We are proud to be an ECOSOC NGO with the United Nations and we proudly support the 2030 Agenda.
We created partnerships between the private sector, NGOs, and UN programs, for example we recruited flight attendants to support the UNICEF Change for Good program, which raised more than 18 Million to support programs in education, maternal and neonatal health, In 2010, we learned about the issue of human trafficking and became a leader in aviation and even changed the law in the United States, now requiring all flight attendants be trained.
Programs of AAI impact sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions, and relate to all the such as all the Goals but especially the ones listed below:
Goal 1 – No Poverty
We are providing houses and support for families we know and love in S. Africa and the Philippines through our Share the Love and sponsorship programs.
Goal 2 – Zero Hunger
We provide monthly support for Food Security with our Nutritious foods for Sierra Leone students and also to a Pre School Feeding Program in Guatemala
Goal 3 Good Health and Well Being
We provide monthly support to provide for dental services to the also to provide wigs of hope for breast cancer patients and also care for young pregnant teens in the most vulnerable communities of El Salvador through Gente Ayudando Gente.
Goal 4 Quality Education
We are expanding our work in education (as you will hear later from June Huang and Lee Tian, but currently we provide monthly support in rural Uganda, English education for students in Kiwanis Village El Salvador and sponsorship for students in the Philippines, and South Africa.
Goal 6 – Clean Water
We have been providing clean water for the Hopi and Navajo nations for the last 5 years. The aquafers there have been tainted with arsenic and our work provides water filters to vulnerable families. (also provided water filters to Peru & Gambia) https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/water4hopi/
Goal 8 Decent Work and Economic growth
We have a program in Uganda to help Ugandan women earn income by growing mushrooms and a program in El Salvador to teach culinary skills to those in vulnerable communities. Our work in aviation education on human trafficking awareness relates to Target 8.7 immediate and to eradicate forced labor and human slavery. We suport monthly cause of child protection via the House of Life Mama and Baby Shelter
Goal 15 Life on land –
In El Salvador we have a conservation program supporting small scale sea turtle egg hatcheries on the coast and protecting the mangroves and beaches. Working with local authorities we have been able to hire 600 local fishermen to help with the project.
Goal 16 – Promote peaceful inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
We have funded housing for refugees during the Ukranian crisis and currently funding a very brave hero Krystoff Adamski who regularly hand delivers humanitarian aid directly to small villages in need in Ukraine.
Nancy continues: I have just launched a new book – Wings of Love which tells the whole story about founding of Airline Ambassadors. We hope to do a book-signing at the UN Bookstore soon but you can get your copy now at this Link
I’m pleased to introduce you to Mr Richard Jordan who was my first mentor at the United Nations since 1997. For over 44 years Richard has participated in UN meetings in over 60 countries and He is the Honorary Dean of UN NGOs. He spoke to the UN General Assembly in April on sustainable Tourism and also presented in May during the conference in Inclusive Ageing through Technology
Richard – Thanks everyone, I thank everyone and believe the new focus on innovation (digital education in the UN system and my new role on the global NGO Executive Committee), financial literacy (demonstrated years ago but not picked up after the RESULTS Educational Foundations Summits on Microcredit), and education blend together, and we are glad to share that Airline Ambassadors is also a new member of CoNGO.

June –Hi, I am June Huang, I am the Executive Director of the Windsor International Education Group, and the Executive Director of the Windsor School, a K12 private school based in New York. I came from Taiwan 31 years ago, attended colleges in New York, and advanced my professional career in the educational business, especially cross-culture educational sectors. I am honored to Chair the Board of AAI, oversight our strategy, and mobilize all possible resources to support AAI’s mission and continue Nancy, and many other AAI contributors’ long-time efforts.
In this High-Level Political Forum session, I would like to share a program to exemplify how education will bring a new model to Tourism. We recently designed a US Collegiate Asia Entrepreneurial Tour program. We combine learning modules in business development and entrepreneurship with culture exploration and appreciation of the cultural impact in business development. We mobilize resources from private sectors in the US and China side to provide course learning, business visits cultural activities etc.
A Case Study on Sustainable Tourism (July 16th)We believe Sustainable Tourism involves a better understanding of people’s needs, Tourism is not just about sign seeing, it’s more about learning and appreciation, and more critically, if a tour, a journey can help people’s needs and their career development and improve their living, and connection to more resources, that will broaden our understanding of tourism and help us to develop a new model of sustainable tourism. I am looking forward to sharing our program in a few days!
I am also very happy to introduce you to the new Treasurer for Airline Ambassadors Lee Tian https://airlineamb.org/aai-board-lee-tian/ to speak on the history of the New York Institute of Finance, the importance of literacy training, and additional innovation on Artificial Intelligence:
Lee –Hi, I am Lee Tian, I am the Chairman of the Board and CEO of the New York Institute of Finance, a hundred-year-old Wall Street brand providing professional financial knowledge to professionals and students worldwide who want to learn personal finance corporate finance, and capital market. I am extremely excited to be elected as a new Board Member of Airline Ambassadors International, I am deeply concurring its founder Nancy Rivard’s mission: to to find a way for ordinary people to be a living link between world resources and world need. For me, as I manage one of the best financial knowledge resource providers in the world, one of my missions is echoing Nancy and AAI’s: I and NYIF’s commitment is to link ordinary people including business owners around the world to world-class finance know-how.
Concerning Sustainability, I will share our thoughts and plan at AAI regarding how to partner with the private sector to improve people, especially those entrepreneurial around the world, their knowledge and skills in finance to advance their employment ability and to develop sustainable business and learn how to access capital to support their living and their environment, and collectively to contribute to support UN’s 2030 goals, i.e. a holistic financial literacy education program for the world.

The meeting was held with participation with Zoe Smart and our team from Fundamaya in Guatemala and the kids sent this as a follow up:
The theme of the 2024 High Level Political Forum (HLPF) is “Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crisis: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”. The 2024 HLPF will have an in-depth review of SDG 1 on No Poverty, SDG 2 on Zero Hunger, SDG 13 on Climate Action, SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. The forum will consider effective and inclusive recovery measures to address the impacts of COVID-19 and multiple recent crises across all Sustainable Development Goals and the integrated, indivisible, and interlinked nature of the Goals.
In preparation for the reviews of these in-focus SDGs at HLPF, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), in collaboration with relevant UN system partners, organized a series of Expert Group Meetings (EGMs), bringing together experts and stakeholders from the UN system, governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society, to review progress on commitments made at the SDG Summit and since these SDGs were last reviewed at the HLPF. Four Expert Group Meetings were convened in Spring 2024, on SDG1, SDG2, SDG13, SDG16, with SDG17 considered in a cross-cutting manner. The EGMs provided opportunities to identify particular areas of concern, challenges and opportunities for accelerating transformations; to consider interlinkages with other SDGs and opportunities to leverage synergies and minimize trade-offs; to share knowledge about success stories, good practices and lessons learned; and to suggest ways forward in terms of policies, partnerships and coordinated actions at all levels. They provided opportunities to take stock of recent commitments, such as on SDG 2 during the Food Systems Summit and the Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment and on SDG 13 during the Climate and SDGs Synergies Conference, the Climate Summit and COP28. They can also speak to the challenges under consideration at the Summit of the Future in 2024 and the UN 2.0 vision of a modern and agile UN.
In addition, the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations , the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the International Development Law Organization organized the “SDG 16 High-Level Conference 2024 – Peace, justice and inclusive societies for Sustainable Development”, which was held on Monday, 6 May 2024 at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Conference brought together representatives of governments, international organizations, civil society, academia and youth. Building on the outcomes of previous editions, the Conference aimed at fostering the sharing of experiences and insights and helping to identify good practices that can support the acceleration of progress towards SDG 16 in support of the transition to a more sustainable future, and further promoting its key role as enabler of all the other Sustainable Development Goals.
The outcomes from the meetings will inform the 2024 HLPF and the planning of its sessions, while contributing to the evidence base for collaborations and programmes of work on the SDGs going forward from 2024.
