It was such a joy to have Gail Lima fly in from Key West Florda to help celebrate my birthday!
Gail and I have been friends since before 1991 and and experienced the Unied Nations Earth Summit together, where Gail and (her soon to be husband ) Franko performed the closing concert. Franko played the piano and Gail led a choir of street chldren in performing the song they wrote together.
THE TIME HAS COME
To clean the seas, To clear the air, To save the trees,
If we listen to our hearts, We can make another start,
Then we can find the hope, And find the strength, To dream again, to dream…
If we see the world as whole, And we share a common goal, Maybe it’s not too late, To heal the wounds,And celebrate! THE TIME IS HERE
(Later we played that song at Daves and my wedding.)
Gail and I swam with a dolphin named Sugar on the full moon in May 1995, when I realized Dave was the man for me!
Gail is an artist herself and we first went to visit by very favorite artist Miguel Angel Ramirez at his amazing studio in Pachimalco.
Then we joined a toy distrbution at Bloom Hospital coordinated by my favorite NGO People Helping People. We think of Lisselot Troconis as the Mother Theresa of El Salvador,
We helped distrbute toys to kids who had had cleft pallet surgeries, and met the amazing doctors that were part of the team from Global Smile.
As our last actvity we visited Dave in his new office Minsterio de Diseño y Desarollo. ..and met some of his team…amazing!
On the day of my birthday, January 21, I awoke to a houseful of presents – my husband Dave had truly been busy, and then we were off to our beach house in Barra de Santiago, with a stop off for lunch that the Puro Hotel and lots of suprises meeting old frends and new!
Then off to La Palapa, and while Gail and I had an incredible massage, our caretaker’s kids, Chno and Carlos departerd in their fishing boat for an all night expedition.
We walked on the beach and enjoyed a beautiful and beautiful birthday dinner, our local neighbors showed up to help celebrate with beautiful gifts from the children
and the next day we opened more of our presents from Dave….they were all so very special. We hung out in the Barra and met a very special man helping animals
What a tribute to freindship throughout the years and I am so lucky to have had this!
