Update May 12, 2021
Ernest Taho from Black Mesa Trust is overseeing the installation of filters on the Hopi Reservation. He tested the tap water before and after installation of the specially made Reverse Osmosis systems designed by the Clean Water Foundation. The initial PPM (parts per million) on the tap water before he installed the RO system was 372.00 – which is Unsafe to drink:
He also tested the water after installing the Clean Water Foundation custom-made RO system and the PPM Count was 0.68! The water is so pure you don’t even need a water softener if you wanted to wash your hair hard water is gone contaminants and viruses. See his report below:
Getting clean water in pandemic times
By Ernest Taho – Black Mesa Trust Liaison Water Filter Project
Greetings,
I am honored to be here writing you this update report during these times. It’s been a year since the Hopi reservation has been in lockdown with security checkpoints set up at the entrances of all 12 villages to help control with stopping the spreading of the virus. The project has still been moving forward but at a very slow pace due to the villages being closed to residents only. Now that the number of people being tested positive has been dropping and more people are getting vaccinated, the tribe has been working on getting the reservation open with new protocols in place.
I have now been able to go into some of the villages to do filter installations as well as installing the newly received Reverse Osmosis Systems that were purchased from your contributions to the project, for that I say thank you (Kwahkw`a). I would like to also mention that our project is giving support to the Village of Tewa “Zero Water” filter project to help increase the life span of their filter thus increasing the amount of clean water per filter before changing, I will be the water consultant for their project. Together the NOARSENIC4HOPI Project and the Tewa Zero Water Filter Project will continue the efforts of getting clean water for the people. We have also reached out to the Navajo in the White Cone area of Arizona with a true water protector in lead by the name of Vanessa Dundon. She was given 18 counter top units to start with for her community and the surrounding communities.
