“People of Haiti, We have nearly finished deploying our soldiers and equipment on Haitian soil. This is not an operation against the Haitian people, nor is it an invasion of Haiti. We are not a major power. We have no interest in dominating the Haitian people, nor in seizing Haiti’s wealth. We are a modest, developing nation. All we want is for our four aviation technicians to return home. And we intend to teach a lesson to the gangs—those gangs that are making the Haitian people suffer, killing their loved ones, and preventing them from living a normal, free life, without fear. We are bearing almost the entire cost of this operation ourselves. Although we have received some minor logistical assistance from a few other countries, we are covering 90% of the expenses from our own national treasury.
It came at a high cost, but we learned through our own suffering that justice and peace are priceless. We endured the very same suffering that Haiti is going through today. We lived through a bloodbath even more horrific than what the Haitian people are currently experiencing. We know what it means: to live in fear, to distrust politicians, and to disbelieve anyone who promises to help—because no one came to our aid, and those who did arrive had no good intentions in their hearts. Yet, we managed to escape that fate. After 200 years of suffering, we are finally living in peace, and today, we are the safest country on the continent. We did not come to Haiti to make money; no one is paying us for this. We came to Haiti to fight against the evildoers. But here is what I ask of you: trust us, pray to the one true God, and ask Him to heal Haiti. “Then, if my people—those who bear my name—pray to me, humble themselves before me, seek me once again, and turn away from the wicked sins they have been committing, I will hear them from heaven, where I dwell; I will forgive their sins, and I will restore their land.”
Help us help Haiti. And when our mission is over, we will return home. Perhaps future generations of Haitians will remember us as friends who once came to help.”
