Here is the first hand story from Luis Urrea in Venezuela:
Greetings my beloved sister. I arrived to Venezuela approx. a week before the horrific event. Even though my house in Caracas sustained structural damage, I am more than thankful to be alive!
Under the grace of God only hours after the earthquakes I assisted first responders in the buildings which collapsed located in Altamira which are approx 3 minutes from my house. The following days after and presently we’ve been attending to and helping those in critical need of food, rescue equipment and wound care for those greatly affected in La Guaira.
The odor of countless bodies is unimaginable! Regardless of this with my credentials as Global Ambassador & Coordinator for the Wheelchair Foundation I have been granted special approval to walk every inch of the devastated areas. This has permitted me to have a clear understanding of the true needs.
Thus far I’ve been able to provide more than 5,000 meals, medicine for more than 300 families, higiene products for countless others etc…all with my own resources. The aid being collected from abroad has an array of issues and complications because of political interference from both sides.!…I have allowed this and thus I remain boots on the ground by being boots on the ground in identifying, evaluating and assisting those in need case by case. I’m in constant communication with lead rescue teams, head of firefighters, and medical staff to be most effective in assisting the families working vigorously to either save lives and/or discover the lifeless bodies of their loved ones.
Every social media outlet will tell their story but nothing can or will compare to one seeing the devastation and cry for help with their own eyes. It’s absolutely heartbreaking!!!
To be most effective during these critical moments we need to obtain financial contributions and count with those few individuals who have a clear conscience of providing the essential items where they are most needed. That’s the sad reality.
