El Mision

Mexico

Join us as we visit and provide for two orphanages

that serve as a refuge for children in

El Mision, Mexico!

This mission is a great opportunity for people who want to make a big impact in the lives of children in Mexico, but only have a limited amount of time.

The missions are typically completed in four days. On this trip we will deliver food, clothing, and supplies to the children.  We will also spend time playing games and crafts. Enjoy this rewarding experience, sharing your blessings with those that are in need.

There’s also time to enjoy the beauty of Mexico while you are there. You can sightsee, visit local wineries, horseback ride, go to the spa at La Fonda, or just relax on the beach.

Thank you for joining us in Mexico!

Please visit our Travel Calendar for trip dates.

Detailed itinerary below.

La Mision At-A-Glance

Day 1:

Thursday

Arrive at the SAN airport around 12:00.  We will pick you up at the airport and take you to a local marina where there is a deli.  You will be able to grab a bite to eat before we go.  We will share cars and drive across the Tijuana border.  Our final destination is about 1 hour past the border to La Mision.  That evening, after we settle into our accommodations, we’ll begin to organize the donations for the orphanages and enjoy dinner. Please go to www.lacasadegracia.com to look at the beautiful gated beachfront home you will be staying in.

Day 2:

Friday

We’ll finish the donation sorting for the 100 -150 children.  After that, you will have free time for horseback riding, shopping in beautiful downtown Ensenada, or going to La Fonda for a day of massages, facials and/or skin treatments.

If you care to horseback ride, the horses will be delivered right to the back of the house and you will be able to horseback ride right on the beach. That night we will enjoy another in-house catered dinner and you will be able to meet some of the locals of the Baja!

Day 3:

Saturday

We will spend our day at Pequenos Hermanos Children’s Home (Little Brothers and Sisters).  This will be the first of two orphanages we visit.  Both orphanages' activities will include “The Pizza Guy”.  He will bring a pizza truck, and make pizza for the children.  What a treat after a steady diet of rice & beans!  We will interact with the children; face painting, singing, performing skits, and other outside activities.  We encourage members to bring any games or crafts that you would like to play with the children.

We will have dinner at La Fonda (www.lafondamexico.com).  While there, you will enjoy the music of a live band (dancing is optional).

Day 4:

Sunday

This day will be spent at Casa de Paz Orphanage in El Porvenir. The orphanage has 75 children, 10 of them with special needs.  Again we will have “The Pizza Guy” and interact with the children.  The children will melt your hearts and you will be able to see first-hand their overwhelming needs.

Afterwards we will visit two different wineries and then finish our day by returning to our hacienda for a catered dinner.

Day 5:

Monday

Enjoy another morning on the beach.  We will drive back to San Diego in the early afternoon.

Local Time

Pacific Time

It is the same as the US so your blow-dryers, etc.

Clothing

Bring as little as possible to fit in your carry-on bag.

This will allow more room in your luggage for donations. We suggest casual clothing (tees, sweatshirts and jeans/khakis).

Temperatures vary from 60-70’s.  It is cooler in the evenings so bring a jacket. Wear comfortable shoes and keep jewelry to a minimum.

General packing

Suntan lotion, phrase book, camera.

Donations

We will be concentrating on uniforms, school supplies, backpacks and toys for the July mission.  You will be given a more extensive list of needs along with emergency numbers and contacts in the Welcome Packet.

We also suggest bringing games/crafts/face painting/bubbles/etc. to play with the children.

Communication

You can contact your mobile telephone company and have them switch your policy to make and receive international calls at a less expensive rate while you are on the mission.  After the mission is over you can switch back to your normal policy.

Scheduling Flights

Please make sure to give yourself ample time to make your flight home. An afternoon flight is recommended.  Traveling back into the United States sometimes takes 1 ½ to 3 hours at the border.  Also, please contact the Coordinator, Becky Gahman when you have made your flight schedule so we will be able to pick you up at the airport.
