Press Release

Solino, Haiti

Port-au-Prince (February 09, 2010)--Screen actor and human rights defender Sean Penn, pictured right, with Airline Ambassadors International founder Nancy Rivard and AAI Haiti president Dr Roger Jean-Charles - has committed to establishing a clinic and aid distribution center in the neighborhood of Solino, identified as chronically underserved by Airline Ambassadors.

The visit was especially important to the impoverished Solino community as its residents say that even before the earthquake they were already a forgotten segment of the population plagued by gang violence and unemployment. Today, Solino is as desperate a place on the planet as a community can be.  The promise made by Sean Penn has the potential of permanently changing the cycle of under-nourishment and marginalization experienced by the residents of this suburban area of the capital of Port-au-Prince.

Later in the day the Airline Ambassadors team visited a stretch of land designated by the government as a location for AAI to potentially partner with the International Association of Adaptive Sciences to create a Children's Village as a refuge for the youngest victims of the earthquake. The land is located along the coast at Grand Goave, close to the epicenter of the earthquake.

The village would provide tent housing at first with latrines, a canteen, a school and security to enable the children to avoid the continued trauma of living on the streets. Some 25 families were surveyed by AAI, all of which readily agreed to this being the best temporary option to protect the area's children while their parents rebuild.
