Airline Ambassadors Headquarters -- February 23, 2010

When news of the January 12th earthquake first became public, the office of Airline Ambassadors turned into a frenzy of activity.  Due to their recent visit to Haiti and their impending project to facilitate the implementation of proposed building codes, the news of the earthquake and its destruction came as an especial blow to AAI founders, Dave and Nancy Rivard.

Quickly traveling to Haiti, they identified the needs first hand, but the accompanying financial constraints appeared to be massive.  Without commercial airlines flying into Haiti and with no knowledge of the level of damage to the roads from the Dominican Republic, the only option was to charter aircraft at a cost to the small non-profit of $34,000 one way from Miami to Port-au-Prince.

Unsure of where the funds would come from, but confident that the public would hear the call and respond, Airline Ambassadors decided to go ahead and charter the large aircraft.  In Miami, Nancy and Dave were greeted with a welcome and surprising gift.  They were approached by Sean Cononie ,the head of a local homeless group called Homeless Voice.  Over the previous three days members of the group – knowledgeable of what
homelessness really means - had and managed to raise a phenomenal $16,000 towards the cost of filling the aircraft with food and water for the hundreds of thousands put out onto the street by the earthquake.

Not content with raising such an incredible sum, members of Homeless Voice also volunteered to load the airplane with ten tons of donated items destined for the people of Haiti.

Amidst so much misery came such selfless dedication from among the most marginalized of our own society.

Cuando la noticia del terremoto del 12 de enero de hizo pública por primera vez, Las oficinas de Airline Ambassadors se convirtieron en un frenesí de actividad. Debido al trabajo de campo realizado recientemente en Haiti por parte de Airline Ambassadors para implementar sistemas de vivienda acordes a los códigos internacionales, la noticia del desastre devasto a los fundadores de AA, Nancy y Dave Rivard.

De inmediato viajaron a Haití para identificar las necesidades primarias, pero la escases de  l fondos nublaba  el panorama. Sin vuelos comerciales con destino a Haití, y sin información de los daños reales en las vías de República Dominicana a Haití, lo único que quedaba por hacer era alquilar un avión privado a un costo especial para nuestra organización sin ánimo de lucro: U$ 34,000 dólares saliendo de Miami hacia Puerto Principe.

Sin tener claridad de donde saldrían los fondos para emprender la misión, pero con la confianza de que el clamor de ayuda sería escuchado por la comunidad global, Airline Ambassadors decidé iniciar la misión y alquilar la aeronave.  En Miami, Nancy y Dave fueron recibidos con un regalo sorpresa extraordinario. Los esperaba SeanCnononie, director de un grupo local de ayuda a  indigentes llamado Voces de Indigentes.  Tres días antes, miembros del grupo, con conocimiento de lo que significaba estar sin techo, lograron reunir la increíble cantidad de 16,000 dólares para contribuir a cargar la aeronave con agua y comida para los cientos de miles que habían quedado sin hogar a causa del terremoto.

No les bastó con reunir esta suma de dinero. Los miembros de esta organización también fueron voluntarios para cargar la aeronave con10 toneladas de diferentes bienes donados para los haitianos.  Un ejemplo de entrega total por parte de aquellos necesitados de nuestra propia sociedad.
